Recombinant Human CD1A comprises aa 19-327 and is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. CD1a is a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, which are structurally related to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins and form heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin. At least five CD1 proteins (CD1a, b, c, d, and e) have been identified. CD1 is expressed on cortical thymocytes, Langerhans cells, and dendritic cells. It is absent on mature peripheral blood T cells but intracytoplasmic expression is detected on activated T lymphocytes. CD1 proteins mediate the presentation of primarily lipid and glycolipid antigens of self or microbial origin to T cells.
