BAM 22P is a 22-aa peptide corresponding to aa210-231 of the precursor proenkephalin-A. It encompasses the sequence of Met-enkephalin that mimics the effects of opiate drugs, which are pain perception and stress response. BAM 22P peptide is a potent endogenous agonist for the sensory neuron specific receptor (SNSR) and isolated from bovine adrenal medulla. EC50 values are 13 and 16 nM for human SNSR3 and SNSR4 respectively. BAM 22P produces opioid- and non-opioid receptor mediated antinociceptive effects in vivo.
