MECR catalyzes the reversible phosphorylytic cleavage of uridine and deoxyuridine to uracil and ribose- ordeoxyribose-1-phosphate. The produced molecules are then utilized as carbon and energy sources or in the rescue ofpyrimidine bases for nucleotide synthesi
