Gene Symbol nuoN
Entrez Gene 7063148
Alt Symbol E2348_C_2416
Species Escherichia coli
Gene Type protein-coding
Description NADH dehydrogenase subunit N
Other Description -
Swissprots B7UFT4
Accessions B7UFT4 CAS09964 YP_002329920
Function NDH-1 shuttles electrons from NADH, via FMN and iron- sulfur (Fe-S) centers, to quinones in the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme in this species is believed to be ubiquinone. Couples the redox reaction to proton translocation (for every two electrons transferred, four hydrogen ions are translocated across the cytoplasmic membrane), and thus conserves the redox energy in a proton gradient. {ECO:0000255|HAMAP-Rule:MF_00445}.
Subcellular Location Cell inner membrane {ECO:0000255|HAMAP- Rule:MF_00445}; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000255|HAMAP- Rule:MF_00445}.
