• Description: Fanconi anemia group L protein (FANCL) is an ubiquitin ligase that mediates ubiquitination of FANCD2, a key step in the DNA damage pathway. FANCL is required for proper primordial germ cell proliferation in the embryonic stage. Defects in FANCA are the cause of Fanconi anemia, a syndrome characterized by pancytopenia, congenital malformations and predisposition to cancers caused by a hypersensitivity to DNA-damaging agents, chromosomal instability and defective DNA repair.
