Function Recognizes and binds the 7-methylguanosine-containing mRNA cap during an early step in the initiation of protein synthesis and facilitates ribosome binding by inducing the unwinding of the mRNAs secondary structures. Component of the CYFIP1-EIF4E-FMR1 complex which binds to the mRNA cap and mediates translational repression. ab171091 staining eIF4E (green) in the cytoplasm of MCF-7 cells (right) compared with a negative control in the absence of primary antibody (left). Formalin-fixed cells were permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 5-10 minutes, blocked with 3% BSA-PBS for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were incubated with the primary antibody (1:100 in 3% BSA-PBS) overnight at 4 ºC. A DyLight 488-conjugated goat-anti-mouse IgG (H+L) secondary antibody was used as the secondary antibody. Red (phalloidin) - F-actin, Blue (DAPI) - nuclei. Images were taken at a magnification of 60x.
